This past Saturday the Cars and Stars of the Southern All Stars series rolled into the Inaugural visit to the Buckshot Speedway outside of Clanton, AL. A thunderstorm and hot temperatures didn’t stop the fans or 19 SAS Super Late Models from showing up to the newly built red clay over for the Buckshot 40. The night started with Joseph Joiner stopped the clock with a time of 12.676, nearly a half second faster than Billy Franklin who was Group A quick Qualifier. This would set up two 8 lap heat races that were won by Billy Franklin and Joseph Joiner. 18 SAS Super Late Models would make the call for the 40 lap feature During the four wide salute to the fans, the drivers would stop and shut their cars off on the front stretch to honor the SAS fallen tech man Eddie Roland. Joiner and Franklin would lead the field to green with Joiner beating Franklin to turn one and would lead lap number one. The first caution would fly on lap 2 when Dan Cox and Randy Holder spun in turn 4. On the restart Joiner would again beat the field to turn one and would stretch his lead out until lap 7 when the caution flew for a slowing Virgil Taylor. On the next restart Joiner would jump out to the lead but Billy Franklin, Dillon Tidmore and Josh Putnam would do battle for 2nd, 3rd and 4th but wouldn’t last long when the final caution of the night would come out for a spinning Dan Cox. Joiner would extend his lead after the restart but the battle between Tidmore and Putnam would heat and would last until the checkered flag. Lap 30 lap traffic became an issue as Joiner got stuck behind a lap car allowing Billy Franklin to get within a couple of car lengths but was not able to make a move for the lead.
